NEED

Phoenix is one of the largest hubs in the U.S. for medical care. According to the Phoenix Business Journal, the city’s metro area is home to 56 total hospitals and medical centers, and HealthGrades ranked Phoenix as the seventh best city in the U.S. for hospital care. Children from all over the country with serious and rare medical conditions come to Phoenix for treatment, creating within the city a high population of families with seriously-ill children. These children undertake burdens that most families will never know, including regular hospitalizations and significant missed time from school. Special needs schools are also challenged to provide the proper care and education to many children because they don’t have the funds available to supply the necessary equipment that will help meet students where they are and serve them in a more holistic way. Additionally, parents of these seriously-ill and chronically-ill children experience higher rates of divorce, and exorbitant medical bills lead to extreme financial strains.

The Johnson Family’s Mission 31 Foundation works to assist this population by providing resources that help alleviate these burdens and strains.
