David and Meghan Johnson Unveil Third David's Locker, Hold Private Fundraising Event on Monday
Tuesday, April 23, 2019

PHOENIX (APRIL 23, 2019) – On Monday morning, Arizona Cardinals Running Back David Johnson and his wife, Meghan, paid the students and teachers of Emerson Elementary School a visit to unveil their third David’s Locker. Filled with iPads, noise-canceling headphones and more, David’s Locker will further support and enhance the choice-based and student-centered education offered at Emerson Elementary.

All iPads and headphones were generously donated to David’s Locker through the Mission 31 Foundation’s partnership with Ingram Micro and their vice president, Todd Zegers.

Emerson Elementary School serves 42 students – kindergarten through eighth grade – who have been identified as eligible for special education services and often have social, behavioral or health-related issues that interfere with their ability to learn. These students greeted the Johnsons with a high-five line as they entered the school, illustrating their enthusiasm to be recipients of the latest David’s Locker.

During the unveiling ceremony, the Johnsons broke out the new iPads, showing the students how they can utilize the new technology in a way that will enhance their educational experience.

The Emerson Elementary Locker represents the first David’s Locker to be installed within a Title I school, having largely been focused in pediatric hospitals in the past. David and Meghan unveiled their inaugural David’s Locker at Phoenix Children’s Hospital in April 2018. It was designed to be mobile in order to fit the hospitals’ needs for technology on an isolation floor. The second David’s Locker was unveiled at Cardon Children’s Medical Center in September 2018. It serves a variety of needs for many children as the hospital sees children from birth to age 18, treating 60,000 children annually.

Following the David’s Locker program, the Johnsons held their second-annual ‘An Evening with David & Meghan’ fundraising event at the Sanctuary Resort in Paradise Valley. The event featured a pleasant evening of cocktails, catered hors d'oeuvres and an extensive silent auction for the 40 guests in attendance. Each guest spent one-on-one time with David and Meghan, pledging support for the Foundation’s next David’s Lockers that will be unveiled in the Greater Phoenix area.

Throughout the event, the Johnsons spoke at length about their intention to further expand their Foundation’s programming to incorporate more education-based outreach for students struggling with physical or mental handicaps. Schools like Emerson Elementary that provide specialized educational services for medically in-need students will continue to receive new David’s Lockers in the future, alongside the many pediatric hospitals in the area.

David’s Lockers are the signature community outreach program of The Johnson Family’s Mission 31 Foundation, which was founded in October 2017 with a mission to provide opportunities, support and resources to seriously ill children and their families by offering daily support and life changing experiences.
