David and Meghan Johnson Unveil Second David's Locker at Cardon Children's Medical Center
Friday, September 21, 2018

David and Meghan Johnson founded their family foundation, The Johnson Family’s Mission 31 Foundation, in October of 2017 with a vision of wanting to leave a positive and everlasting impact in the lives of families with ill children. By using their national platform, David and Meghan quickly delved into that vision by unveiling their first David’s Locker, a mobile locker containing Sony PlayStations, Apple iPads, Nintendo Switches and video games, that the kids will use to distract and comfort them during treatment and recovery, at Phoenix Children’s Hospital in April 2018.   On Monday, David and Meghan opened their second David’s Locker at Cardon Children’s Medical Center in Mesa.

For Cardon Children’s Medical Center, David’s Locker is a welcoming gift as the donated electronic equipment will serve as a welcome diversion for years to come for the young patients at Cardon Children’s by giving them access to technology that can be used for fun as well as for educational purposes. The educational component is important – and often overlooked – as it allows kids to keep up with schoolwork.  The hospital also has a fulltime teacher with a classroom who works with kids during their stay.  David’s Locker will certainly be put to use as some patients come from disadvantaged backgrounds and they do not have iPads and computer games at home.

David's Locker at Cardon Children's Medical Center is special as the side panel of the locker lists the foundation's Legacy Donors. The foundation's Legacy Donors are individuals who have made a significant contribution to the foundation and fully support and champion David and Meghan's mission.

This locker will serve a variety of needs for many children as the hospital sees children from birth to age 18; on average and the total number of children treated is 60,000 annually.

The goal of our foundation is to impact children's lives," Johnson said. "Being there for the children and their families. Distracting them during the tough times. I know kids love video games and our biggest thing is getting these (David's Locker) in as many hospitals as we can.”

David and Meghan are hosting Johnson Family: Agents of Change fundraising event at Mountain Shadows on Tuesday, October 23.  Johnson and his Arizona Cardinals teammates will step off the football field to mix and mingle with supporters of the Johnson Family's Foundation, Phoenix’s charitable community, and Cardinals fans. Guests will enjoy a high-spirited cocktail reception, fine cuisine, and exciting live and silent auctions.   Funds raised at Johnson Family: Agents of Change will go toward opening more David’s Locker in the Phoenix community. Tickets and sponsorships can be purchased at davidjohnson31.org.
